Internet Crimes against Juveniles- This problem has been increasing within our Country for many years. We know it happens here in Elko County, but often goes unreported. It will only be a matter of time before one of our children fall victim to an Internet predator, if they haven't already.
PLAN: We will establish a partnership with the Internet Crimes against Children (ICAC) Task Force Program, which helps state and local law enforcement agencies, develop an effective response to cyber enticement and child pornography cases. This help encompasses forensic and investigative components, training and technical assistance, victim services, and community education. Numerous task forces have been established throughout the nation.
The ICAC Program was developed in response to the increasing number of children and teenagers using the Internet, the proliferation of child pornography, and the heightened online activity by predators searching for unsupervised contact with underage victims. This program will assist state and local law enforcement cyber units to investigate cases of child sexual exploitation.
Teenage Suicide- Teen suicide is becoming more common every year in the United States. In fact, only car accidents and homicides (murders) kill more people between the ages of 15 and 24, making suicide the third leading cause of death in teens and overall in youths ages 10 to 19 years old.
PLAN: As a community we need to promote the National Suicide Helpline - 1-800-SUICIDE hot line. We need to seek assistance from parents, friends, teachers, school counselors and law enforcement to see the obvious signs of an at risk youth. I cannot get my message across enough about education. There are so many organizations that deal with issues such as teenage suicides that are willing to spend their money to educate us.
During my bi-monthly meetings with each township I will be updating citizens about our current issues and will be seeking organizations to donate time to speak at these meetings and establish seminars to deal with the individual problems of each community.
